TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our events are called TEDxDanubia, where x stands for an independently organized TED event and Danubia symbolizes the cross-border and interdisciplinary communication and thinking of our region. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
TEDxDanubia is the first independently organized official conference in Hungary held in the spirit and under the umbrella of the famous international TED conferences. It aims to bring the remarkable and unique TED experience to Budapest. We would like innovative, exciting and inspiring thinkers and doers from all areas of life to gather and share their thoughts and experiences to gain new insights, values and understanding.
The global initiative launched by TED explores solutions to the climate crisis worldwide with a multitude of expert platforms. Hungary also joined the initiative through TEDxDanubia Countdown, which in 2020-21 is fully dedicated to the topic of climate awareness and individual responsibility: through a series of programs rich in creative ideas, we promote environmental awareness and encourages action in all segments of society.
TEDxDanubia is a non-profit initiative based on the principles of social entrepreneurship, by which we simply mean that we place a good and inspiring cause at the centre of our efforts and activities. We aim to create a platform for free-spirited and joyful interdisciplinary exploration, conversation and cooperation in our region. A platform that helps us in bridge chasms and cross borders both in terms of geography and fields of expertise. All around the world and across various scientific fields there is a major trend of shifting paradigms: it is the common sense of life itself arising from interdisciplinary thinking and conversations finding its way back to fertilize knowledge gained through centuries of ever more intense specialization. We need a platform to promote and facilitate this process to create a better life for ourselves and to be an integral and valuable part of this changing world.
